Power cut lighting: choose by use, not claims
Compare the roles of a torch, headlamp and lantern before buying.
Start with the task
A handheld torch directs a beam, a headlamp frees your hands and a lantern lights an area. Describe your task before comparing numbers: finding keys, reading instructions or moving through a room. Advertised lumens alone do not describe real use.
Check the useful setting
An advertised runtime may refer to the lowest setting while the headline output refers to another. Look for a test that names the mode, battery and duration, and records any output drop. Without that context, two numbers do not make a reliable comparison.
Plan charging and storage
Keep the correct cable or compatible batteries with the light, following manufacturer instructions. Try the controls before storing it and tell others where it is. Follow the manufacturer’s battery use, charging and storage requirements.
What a useful test should show
An exact model, a described procedure, an original video and observed limitations. A positive review or unboxing does not establish runtime or durability. AN74 has not validated a light yet; our equipment page explains the checks required before any recommendation.
