Keep essentials organised and accessible without taking over a small home.
Start with what you own
Place your bag on a table and gather items you already have: a torch, phone cable, document copies and suitable clothing. Separate things you would take with you from supplies that stay at home. This keeps a portable bag from becoming an overloaded cupboard.
Give everything a place
Choose an accessible location that does not block doors or walkways. A labelled box can hold small accessories; heavier supplies need a stable surface. Record the location of each item and make sure the people who need it can find it. Limited space should not remove essential household needs from your plan.
Try a simple rehearsal
Retrieve your bag and documents without moving an entire shelf. Check that the bag is comfortable to carry. List missing items before shopping. A small organiser may help, but a ready-made kit does not replace a personal inventory.
Adapt the checklist
Official lists are starting points. Children, pets, medication and mobility change what you need. Consult guidance for your own country and local risks. Set a date to review the contents, and follow manufacturer instructions for batteries and other consumables.
